FAQs

What is your criteria?

As we have access to our 18 lenders, our criteria can be quite varied. Generally, it comes down to your overall profile, how much you want to borrow and what you want the loan for. Have a read of the most common questions down below and the best thing to do is fill out an application form and one of our consultants will give you a call and let you know what we can do.

What is the minimum?

We have a minimum loan of $3,000. If you have want to borrow less than this amount we can consolidate some of your other debt (if you have any) and incorporate this into the new loan.

How much can I borrow?

It all comes down to you, for one you should only borrow what you need to borrow! So tell us what you ideally want and we will work around that, if we cannot approve you for the full amount we will come back to you with what we can do and why. We do unsecured lending but if you have a car, boat or property as security, we can lend larger amounts, although this is of course dependent on your overall profile.

How old do I have to be?

To borrow in New Zealand you have must be 18.

What will the interest rate be?

At Credit Express our interest rates vary. We deal with a huge variety of lenders, each with their own range of interest rates. We also deal with a wide variety of New Zealanders each with a unique set of circumstances. As a result of this we do not offer one interest rate for all borrowers. The rate you get will come down to how strong your profile is. Your profile is made up of many things such as stability, asset backing, credit history and bank account operation to name just a few. Once we know more about you and your needs we will be able to provide an accurate quote.

Below is a list of interest rates. *These rates are “from” meaning these are generally the lowest rates we can access. All interest rates displayed are for information purposes only and are subject to change . The interest rate offered to you will depend on the strength of your application and lenders credit criteria at the time of application. Interest rate may be subject to special promotional offers . Once you have applied we will be in a position to give you an accurate idea of what interest rate you qualify for.

  • Car Loans from 11.95%
  • Boat Loans from 12.95%
  • Debt Consolidation from 13.50%
  • Personal Loans from 13.50%
  • Unsecured Loans from 16%

How much does it cost?

It costs nothing to apply for a loan through Credit express. Once we assess your application we will be in a position to provide you with a quote for your loan. At this time you can make a fully informed decision as whether you would like to proceed with the loan on offer.

How does Credit Express get paid?

As we deal with a variety of lenders how we get paid does vary. Typically we get paid a commission from the lender and insurer. We may also receive a broker fee. Any fees that are charged are fully disclosed and agreed with you before loan documents are issued to you. If you are not happy with any fee disclosed you are able to advise your consultant and the loan will be cancelled at no cost to you. We will need your acceptance of any fees before the loan can be advanced.

How long does it take?

This can come down to a number of factors. We aim to get your loan approved on the same business day we receive your full application. For you to help us provide the quickest approval possible we will normally need you to supply your ID, 60 days bank statements and proof of your income. These can be emailed or faxed to us. The longer you take to provide this information the longer an answer will take.

What can I use as security?

Typically it is a car, caravan, boat or property. How much we can lend you is not just dependant on what the asset is valued at, but what you can afford and profile for. We can of course do unsecured, but we have stricter criteria for that than we do for secured loans, it just comes down to risk.

What if I have bad credit?

We can still often help. If you have a paid default to LTSA or Telecom or Doubleday we are not really worried. If the default amount is a little high we will want to know how it came about though. If the defaults are unpaid it does get trickier, we often need security or may include paying the default in the loan agreement. If the defaults are recent and to another finance institution it may pay to give us a call first to see if we can do anything to help.

Do I need to be working?

No, we do accept beneficiaries and also take family assistance, ACC and child support payments into account. You do still need to meet our affordability criteria so we also look at your outgoings like rent/board/mortgage payments. We cannot take student allowance/loan into account unfortunately.
